Why Hammock Dave? And where are the Hammocks?

Excellent questions!

I used to live on a sailboat. Quite small by anyone's standards, but it was quite possibly the best life for a guy on his own without a care in the world. A typical day after work consisted of walking down the dock saying hello to the resident Herron, jumping on the boat, grabbing a beer and watching the sunset. Really... That's what I did.

The friggin' life!

After getting tired of sitting on weird chairs propped up on the bow of my boat, I decided to get a cheap hammock and hang it between the mast and the forestay. It was there I drank my beer and greeted my fellow boat-neighbors as they walked past. Needless to say, all the others ended up getting a hammock to do the same thing. Not that I came up with a new idea, but I reminded people why in fact, living the easy life is good for you.

So this is where I tell you I decided to make and sell hammocks right? Nah.

I tried making a hammock but realized my brain couldn't handle the repetitive task of looping and knotting.

I looked around for hammock distributors. Being the 'little guy' I would have been better off buying all the hammocks from Wal-Mart and sticking my logo on them. In other words, the 'Hammock business' is not where I needed to be. Maybe someday I can source some really cool hammocks.

Where I needed to be, is in the business of living easy. Having fun. Sharing the desire to just 'BE'. No judgements, no guilt.

Start a blog? Meh. Open (another) restaurant? Meh. Brand an idea? YES!

So here it starts. 

Starting out with some tangible products made by hand (and a little help from technology in the form of a CNC machine), I decided to go forward.

While the immediate plan is to add more fun hand made products along with smartly sourced products, I hope to find a way to create a brand that people can relate to. Maybe clothing, accessories, or just conversation pieces. Whatever it is, I'd like to bring 'quality' back to life.
